Barbecue restaurants are a popular phenomenon in America, but they are fairly uncommon in the UK although some do exist in certain areas and they popularity of the concept is growing. A barbecue restaurant is quite simply a restaurant where the principle method of cooking is through barbecuing and the fare served will typically consist of various varieties of grilled meats, cooked over hot goals or in some instances a natural wood fire. Barbecue restaurants will frequently specialise in Turkish or Mongolian foods, and it is quite common to see Mongolian restaurants branded as a ‘Mongolian barbecue’.

The popularity of Mongolian style barbecue restaurants is growing significantly in the western world, food will usually be cooked directly on a heated piece of stone often in front of the customers at their tables, this adds a level to excitement to the dinning experience not usual seen with other more typical restaurants and for this reasons this type of barbecue restaurant is highly popular with families. In the US there even exists a chain of Mongolian Barbecue Restaurants where customers are invited to cook their own food at their table using long metal skewers on a very high temperature grill or hot plate.
